Combat Winter Skin and Dull Looking Nails With Love

Ice and snow may do wonders for Disney's Elsa, but for the rest of us, winter weather is not very kind to our skin and nails.

Winter weather can leave skin dry and chapped. The first step is to stay hydrated. Baby, when it is cold outside our first line of defense is hot cocoa and hot coffee drinks. Both taste really great and can warm us up but they can also dehydrate our bodies which means our skin is dry. When skin is hydrated it is more likely to thwart the damaging effects of the winter weather. So always start by drinking water, hot tea, or go for some coconut water.

The second step in keeping your skin looking great during the winter is investing in some good products. If you're like me, you have gone to your local superstore or drug stores and just looked at the numerous brands of face products and felt overwhelmed. I know I have. I have probably tried more than I would like to admit to. I don't have a lot of time to organize several cremes and serums and manage which part of my day they fit in. I do keep in mind that anything I put on my face during the day has to have UV protection but other than that...I'm clueless.

All the big make-up brands have their own skin care lines. The big cosmetic stores all have those expensive brands and while they may be great products-they are all ones I can't afford, and I bet you can't either. So I had to enlist a friend's mom for some help. I'm 40 years YOUNG and what was great for my face at 20 is not so great for my skin now. So I asked Rodan + Field's Executive Consultant, Sheila Brush McClanahan, of Indiana, what products would be great for my really dry skin.

You're wondering who Rodan + Fields are, aren't you? They are not some fad cosmetic or skin care company. Actually all their products are done with no animal testing and are from the best quality ingredients developed by the same women who invented the revolutionary Proactive acne skin care system that is sold worldwide. Their skin care products are specially made and matched to your specific skincare needs. All those store brands we've seen are good products but are they specially formulated for your specific skin? Probably not. Rodan + Fields are and there are some really great savings to be had with their products.

Sheila Brush McClanahan knows her stuff! She's the bees knees when it comes to the products she sells and stands behind. Basically winter skincare comes down to Soothing that skin and we're talking about a few products that are going to do the most (and no scattered messy jars and tubes in the medicine cabinet or bathroom sink) value. Again, I am not dismissing those other products but Rodan+Fields is going to be more affordable than going to a store like Aveda, Sephora, Clinique, Estee Lauder, Lancome Paris, or having to take an armful of drugstore/superstore products to the cash register. Plus, you have the promise that Rodan+Fields's products are not tested on animals and their products are not made from harmful chemicals or derived from non renewable sources.

Just like with our skin, our nails suffer too during the winter time. Nails can become brittle and weak and have you noticed those darn hangnails? I hate hang nails, but they happen because of the dryness. Plus there's the gallons of Purell we're putting on them during flu season. Let me tell you some of my best tips as an Independent Jamberry Nails Consultant, for those winter nails.

Invest in a good hand lotion. Jamberry Nails Indulgence line's Nourish Hand Creme is designed to make those hands soft and supple. Look for lotions with more organic ingredients and less silicone. Most lotions at drug stores are silicone based. No one wants waxy greasy hands. You want a lotion or hand creme that is going to be absorbed into your skin while giving you a satiny feel to your hands.  Every night I love to do sugar scrubs on my hands and then massage some almond oil into them. I also use my Jamberry Cuticle Oil around my cuticles so that my nails are happy and healthy.

Next I wrap my nails in my gorgeous and fun Jamberry Nail wraps-which are great to cover up dull brittle nails and give them some protection from the elements. Jamberry Nails's lacquer and gel enamels are great at protecting your natural nail as well. The great thing about wraps other than they take less than 20 minutes to apply and come in over 300 designs, are that they look great on any size nail. So you can get some for yourself or that special little girl in your life.
